mpjf01 wrote:The only valid argument that I have been able to identify against pre-ordering would be that it would disadvantage resellers who would proobably not wish to invest large $ in the hope that a product would eventually be available - yet would have to if the facility was offered in order to compete with single item purchasers. HK's most valued customers would have to be the resellers and I guess it is important to keep them happy.

I'm afraid that's where we differ. In my opinion it's the ordinary guy who should be the valued customer. To hell with resellers who are only feathering their own nests, some by even telling buyers they aren't selling HobbyKing stock. I'm referring to the fly by night type resellers who grab as much as they can, sell it at an unbelievable markup then close down should any warranty problems arise. They then open another account and away they go again. I've mentioned before about the seller who boasts he has warehouses all over the world. His photos are photoshopped to hide the words HobbyKing on any item (very poorly too) and he sells the item still sealed in the box it arrived from HK in. A $90.00 plane he sells for $300.00 with freight and amazingly sells a number of them. I've seen him appear under 3 seperate IDs but lost track of him as he's obvious;y run out of that particular stock. He's still selling but I gave up following him.

I think it's the hobbyist who should be looked after. We outbuy the reseller by a massive amount and without us the reseller wouldn't have a clue what's selling and what isn't. As for any other forum I have no interest in except non-HK forums and I find them very biased at times. I've seen a few digs on this forum but I understand a number of posts have been deleted and one thread locked simply due to business reasons. I had no idea this was actually sponsored by HK and hoped freedom of speech would be allowed. Sadly I was wrong although I must admit it has much more leeway than certain other HK forums where personal matters appear to rule and everything revolves around not who you are but who you agree with and pander to. A number of the members using the forums are downright scary in the extreme. But that's another story.

I get the impression that today or tomorrow will NOT see the radio being released. And so we have been led down a very long garden path and a very long walk off a very short pier. In other words I feel we have been had since day one. Obviously I could be wrong and if that is the case I will apologize but unfortunately I can't imagine any apology being offered for what we have been put through.

I think people have given up and written off any hope of ordering their radio between the 20th and 25th. This forum seem to have many members who say nothing. but what is there to say except "thanks for stuffing my Christmas up". Now, not only can't we trust the word of HK but the Mayans as well.

We don't differ on this, I've said before I generally agree with your sentiments here. I was trying to suggest that from HK's point of view a reseller would be a valued customer. HK would, surely, much rather have one customer who buys 10000 items per year than any one customer who buys 200. As one of the latter I don't like it that certain customer's needs take priority over mine but, based on the evidence that I have seen I suspect that this is what is happening.

I do apologize, I totally misread you. My excuse apart from being an old fart is I haven't slept for 4 days because of this radio. I even changed my mail prompt because it wasn't loud enough. It is now :-) If someone is a recognized HK outlet then HK should take them into account when ordering stock. I've been lucky a few times and just scraped in when I receive an email saying the item is selling but if one of these freelance sellers manages to get in first he just grabs whatever he can and everyone is left wondering what just happened.

So what is the truth? are there so many people on Ebay who have never heard of HK? or are there so many with a gripe against HK and would rather pay double or even triple HK's price and not even know it originated from HK. The Ebay seller is getting his buyers from somewhere and apart from newbies surely the rest of his buyers must know about HK. I just can't grasp the logistics of how anyone could sell an aircraft for triple HK's price, charge $40.00 freight and hand deliver it to the buyer who lived 2 suburbs away. Still in it's HK shipping box. OK people are allowed to make a profit but when it's stopping you and I from getting that model I feel it's wrong. HK would get the same money if we bought one each and they have two very happy buyers whereas the other way HK don't even get a mention and miss out on return customers. But that's the way things work and I guess we have to accept it. I just can't accept a promise in black and white that the 9xr would be on sale and despite so many questions being asked not a word is being said. That's just bad business but then I notice the sales of the standard 9X has picked up and possibly that's the aim. Many have said they won't take the gamble and just buy the 9x.

I wish I knew a guy who could convert my radio for me to accept the new goodies. Then I could learn how to reflash my own radio as new firmware becomes available. I'm not really interested in different modules but extra models and better programming, all the things we hear about but have to be a genius to figure it out. I took one look at the wiring for the gadget to reflash the radio and changed my mind. I've been soldering for over 50 years and have desoldered 120 pin ICs from one radio and resoldered them in another another. I've worked on 7 layer circuit boards from the F15 where a bad solder joint could literally cost millions of dollars but today it's plugs and wiring in models. The eyes are going and the hands aren't as steady as they used to be. Plus being stuck in a little bush town makes it hard to find anyone who knows what I'm talking about let alone find someone to mod the radio. I heard there's a full swap over motherboard but for the price I could buy 3 9XRs. I guess I'm just a techno freak years past my use by date. Maybe I should offer a TX RX 900 mhz FPV unit for a mod rather than just sell it. Brand new, never used except to test it was working on the bench. Wrapped up and put away. Or sell it and buy the fresky or whatever it's called. Maybe I shouldn't mention the opposition :-)

I'd better shut up, I jst had my morphine and even after all this time I get light headed. I really enjoy talking to you and hope you get what we all want. Also may you and yours have a great Christmas and New Year and if you partake of a little liquid happy juice please have a couple for me as it's not on my menu. Neither are nuts, chocolate, anything with sugar and just about anything which arrived in the Chrisco hampers we get. All thanks to the Vietnam war, my own fault, I actually volunteered and what do I get? a hospital bed, an air chair and a 80% pension. But I have a good wife and my aircraft and boats. And no bloody 9XR.

You're kidding me? Mod my 9X for just $15.00. That's doesn't sound fair to you. The parts cost more than that. I'm madly trying to remember what was involved. The USB interface, all that soldering inside plus I'm sure there was another piece. Isn't there a module? I honestly can't remember it all. I just remember taking a look and thinking whoa, this is beyond me. I have no problem reflashing, I did my GPS logger last week and my FSOne V2 dongle but they just had to be plugged into a USB port and run the software.

I would really like to take you up on your generous offer but please reconsider the price, Upwards. You sound as bad as me. I've fixed a couple of reverse polarities and changed mode 1 to 2 and never charged. I had a shop for 4 years repairing VCRs and TVs and was always getting into trouble for undercharging. That's why my wife reckons I make a bad businessman. The same with aircraft parts. I keep a large inventory of everything required for building and never charge for something which cost me $1.00 for 5. etc. I know it adds up and some people use me but I guess that's the way I am.

You just let me know when you're ready. Obviously the Christmas break is out but as soon as you're right just holler. I kept my box and foam for the radio and I won't send the one that was reversed. The other one is as new and has no hidden problems. The first one stopped beeping 2 days after I received it. When you're ready just PM me and I'll send it down. Just let me know what you need. Wow, there is a Santa after all :-) Just in case this forum gets closed for some reason, Just being careful, my 'I don't care who knows it" address is [email protected]

HAHAHA, I just got a Merry Christmas card from Mr. Hand. Another golden opportunity to mention the 9XR gone wishing. Oh well I'm not in such a hurry to get one now. Good On'yer

I just found the board or interface. Tiny little thing, I assume the cable leading away is connected to all the solder points within the radio that put me off. Where do you put the interface when not in use? I'm sure the photo I saw was that interface hard wired with no male /female connector. I think it must have been on YouTube I saw it. Then again, it was photos so maybe not.

I have sent you an email. The cable is soldered to pads on the main Tx circuit board. The USB end obviously connects to a PC. You can choose to leave the programmer inside the Tx and make the usb plug accessible from outside the case or you can have the programmer outside the TX and have a socket and plug in the TX case to carry the cable through it. I do that. Any 6 pin socket/plug will do.

Sounds like you're talking about the Smartieparts boards.
Talk to user "s_mack" here or at rcgroups.
He is a great resource for the upgrade hardware for the 9x.

This programmer will work. It's a great deal for $5.

It's not just for reflashing the firmware. If you use the eepe software, you can store and edit models on your computer. It's great!

Chocksaway wrote:I fully understand lack of sense of humour. It's just so strange that it's so lacking on HK forums. I must admit it's unusual for only people in power suffer from it whilst the ordinary member understands it. I do think some people should realize that something they consider taboo can be seen as hilarious to a billion other people. I did study the concept of humor and realize some people just don't accept any form of it. I'm sure you've met them. You are at the pub and with a group of people and you tell a joke. There always seems to be one who sits there with a blank look on their face. Rather than appear dumb they ask what the joke means. At this stage I suggest you feel an urgent need to go for a walk, away. There is nothing in the world of humor to have to explain a joke to anyone..

The one yesterday I now understand how certain people could misunderstand. The run down was to set the scene. To appear genuine and ready to give up, work it to a certain point then completely change and relieve the pressure, hence the "Nope, I can't do it" It's at that stage most would understand what was going on but conclusions got jumped and the rest is history.

I must admit that your comment about the disease stumped me. You made a statement and a question at the same time. I don't understand what you were trying to say. That my signature was a disease or asking if it was. Obviously it isn't so that leaves you saying it is. Loosely translated it means "Aircraft controlled by a 9XR" As there is no word in Latin for Aircraft some scribe has decided that if there was one around back then it would probably be called that and the name stuck.

I honestly think humour should be taught at school and the younger the better. I believe the world would be a better place for it and grouches would simply vanish.

Chocksaway, my native language is portuguese, sorry my english with many deficiencies.

To achieve success in the selection exams for my studies in mechanical engineering, I studied with as few colleagues who would do the selection exams for medicine and biology, it seems strange but they were really friends, we met every day, for almost a year with a lot of discipline, only to study. As I was the only one to do an engineering course, I had to study the curricula of basic courses for medicine and biology, with many terms in latin.

I like people who have a critical sense of our world and its diversity, these people must also expose personal opinions about their observations of the events that surround them, this is a way to better understand how different people communicate. I find very positive that you put your opinion on this auto censorship in these forums.

It happened that on a forum, while waiting the release of this radio, some members began to exchange experiences as a real chat room and the conversation was very interesting for those who followed. One day they were all summoned to stick to the subject, suddenly the room was empty, some questions and answers were what remained of that good familiar conversation. We all were there there seeing the hours pass, what harm is in this? 8-)

Well, the question I asked about your signature was purposely placed to put in evidence the origin of the words and how fun was your invention, which physicians and biologists directly understand what is your real intension, congratulations. Plus, if this is a contagious disease all on this forum have already acquired.

I also think a little of humor does not diminish the content, only makes a adorn to a extremely hard and technological world. :geek:

Very nicely said too helixerox, all the way from Portuguese land. Somewhere I've never had the pleasure of visiting, mainly because I get lost easily. Through France to Spain and is it left or right at the first set of traffic lights? Back in the good old days when computers were powered by mice driving little generators attached to their exercise wheels. They were only allowed to stop once an hour, and that's where the term "brown out" originated. The first forums were open to all and everyone knew the rules. They were self policing and it was rare to hear anything bad. But, just after the mouse was fazed ?(phased) out by the RSPCA and electricity was purchased by the bucket load, delivered by a deaf gentleman who spent most of his day shouting out WATT (he was illiterate too) we found forums needed some form of moderation but we quickly discovered a typo had been made and it was actually Modernization it needed but too late. We ended up with moderators who's job it was to "Moderate" We very quickly discovered that more that one was needed otherwise the forum became a dictatorship, something I thought was a long slender potato carried across the oceans in vessels known by that name. But I digress (often) so they added more moderators but as soon as a group off them got together it often became them and us and instead of moderating between two or more warring factions they 1/. join in 2/. agree with the one they liked the most or 3/. kick the one they liked the least out.

Thus was born moderators with tempers and before long there was very little difference seen between them and us except they had that thing we lacked, power and the ability to sneak around deleting posts they didn't like, didn't understand or posted by people they didn't like.

Humour quickly became a hit and miss affair (I had an affair with a miss once, but that's another story) One mod laughed whilst the next deleted. Gone were any sexually related, ethnically related, politically related and religiously related humour. Heck there's 88% of humour out the window. Then the final step brings us to now and that my friend I leave to your experiences and knowledge.

Welcome to you all the way to left or right of Spain. I hope to meet up with you again, Gods and mods willing. Have fun with your new toy and may we pray it gets turned into a grown up transmitter one day. May all resellers be relegated to one per fiscal year and may we all grow to love it the way we loved the 9X

One final thing. I stupidly (surprise) vowed I would publicly apologize should the 9XR be released prior to the 26th of December. So here before God, if he's logged on and all hobbyists I do humbly and sincerely apologize for doubting HobbyKing and their promise. I had no idea their staff would work on Christmas day and I was wrong. Please accept my apology, now get yer finger out and release the ruddy module. What will be it's release date? between March and November. It's like buying a new car and being told the motor isn't yet fitted or buying a bottle of Viagra but the chemicals weren't cooked yet. (not that I'd know about such things) You sold me a sterile, impotent piece of plastic. Would tying a piece of string to my plane and to my 9XR and shout LEFT, NOW RIGHT, NO A BIT MORE. into the beeper hole work? Or maybe tying the same string to the multifunctional handle and my plane and run like mad until she's airborne. That would move her 3 meters, about my running limit. No, it looks like the 9XR sits on the mantlepiece for display and good old 9x keeps doing the work.

Something is weird, verwy weird. I just read a Portuguese gentleman's most, then wrote to a Portuguese gentleman. Received and email advertising a Portuguese aircraft at a good price and then received another post from another Portuguese gentleman and now I'm writing to a Portuguese gentleman. They are taking over I tell you, but that's not a bad thing they are very polite. I'm not really into books. I read one one but it was so boring "A Telephone Directory" I think it was called. Very predictable and very little plot. To be honest I never got past the dedications.

I did think of writing one once, full of intrique, backstabbing, lies, broken promises and then found out it had already been done, it was called "Australian Politics and how to get elected with no votes" a complete flop. Then did actually write a fishing book but it was also a flop. Mystery books are popular like " Who Forgot To Change The Battery In The Mayan Clock" and "Bin Laden Alive and Working In The White House"

Sorry, I must depart, we've got the annual cadgers at the door. We only see the at this time on this day every year. They sit down and eat and drink all they can then clear off until next year. I don't think they eat at home for about a week over Christmas.

If you are MCU programmer, or DIYer, this AVR programmer is very easy to purchase in electronics store.

Yeah, I can't understand why someone living in a communist country, working 18 hr+ shifts 6 days a week for $0.35/hr., and communicating with us through a government controlled internet firewall wouldn't have a good sense of humor. Maybe if you contact his boss he will force him to have a better sense of humor.

Hi mpjf01. I received just about everything I needed except a standard 9x module. The programming dongle type thing arrived as well and I got all the connections nicely wired up and I'm just waiting for the plug and socket to turn up. I did pull an old video interface apart and extracted a great Nine pin plug and chassis mount socket and I'm seriously thinking of using it. The quality is terrific and I've managed to trace the wiring in and out. All the connections are molded into both plug and socket and so it's a lot of soldering and heatshrinking But should do the job nicely. You were right, the installation was easy and I was surprised it was all over and done with within about 15 minutes. I have the 9XR but I'm apprehensive about using it as the test bed.

Thank you for instilling the determination into doing the job myself and of course thank you for your very kind offer to do it for me. I ended up getting the Frsky module with telemetry etc. and also bought a few addons to build a complete setup for one lucky plane. 5 and 7 db gain antenna to experiment with plus the upgrading cable. Happy new year to you and yours.

A simple question.
If I have a new in the bag HK USBasp programmer with supplied flat cable will it plug into the 9xr?
I'm not sure from kwhat's been posted if the programmer plugs into the 9xr side direct, or with the flat car, or some other cable I may not have?
With all the owners (mine is on really slow boat from china) talking about the 9xr I haven't read a review or seen pictures of it actually bring programmed.
Maybe someone could please do an actual review of programming new firmware and the required steps and cables ect.
For those of us with er9x experience it will only be a reinforcement if shat we know except for the cabling of the programmer. For persons new to flashing new firmware it will be a how to.
So much discussions have been devoted to plugging in the balance port of a lipo, so little on reading or writhing new firmware that replaces the so so provided out of date one in the 9xr.
Same with case cracks, seems more important than any actual flying a plane review?

For $50 stripped down, what can it do flying a plane and how does programming or reading the FW work
Thank you

Yes, the HK USBASPis just what you need since it has got both a 6pin contact you need for your 9xr as well as the standard 10 pin one.

The USBASPs you find on eBay will also work, but they typically only come with the 10 pin contact, so you need to buy an additional adapter.
